A New Twist on the Bun

Spritz your hair before you start twisting.

You've probably wound your tresses into a chignon (a low bun) before, but moving the knot a few centimeters to one side changes your whole look. "An off–center updo is less prim," says stylist Harry Josh, a creative consultant for John Frieda who created the look for actress Ellen Pompeo at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. To get the look, brush a flexible–hold spray through dry hair; try John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Shining Hold or Sheer Blonde Crystal Clear Hairspray ($6 each; at drugstores). Create a deep side part, then make a low ponytail on the opposite side. Wrap the tail around the base; secure with pins.
